Trying to find trends and get a grip on this fantasy season in 3rd installment of the 'Fantasy Dreams Blog'.

This week I'm looking for the players that aren't necessarily frontline go to starters, but could be due to put up some decent fantasy football points:
1. We know these things to be true: the Detroit Lions play pass defense with only seven players on the field. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers running game is struggling. John Gruden loves to control the offense with his short passing game. Jeff Garcia is an excellent short - middle passing system quarterback. Expect Garcia to light up the Lions to the tune of 250 yards and at least 2 scores.
2. Bill Belichick makes me play it safe here, who knows L. Maroney's official injury status? We do know that Sammy Morris is out; elevating Kevin Faulk's playing status. What does this mean? Even if Maroney plays, Faulk will get his touches especially in the screen game. Faulk will give you points due to his total yardage; expect over 100 total yards against Miami this week.
3. The St. Louis Rams defense is horrid at best. The past two weeks the Seahawk offense has been pedestrian at best, something has to give. For some reason, (previous years performances maybe?) I feel as though this will be Shaun Alexander's breakout game this season. Not due to his (or his O-Line's) improvement, but due to the lack of enthusiasm on the defensive side of the ball for the Rams. I'm saying, 120 yards and 2 trips to the house….minimum.

This week's must starts:
1. Tom Brady - @ Miami. Who can't use 250 yards and 3 tds?
2. Thomas Jones - @ Cincinnati. Note to ManGenius, Chad P. is struggling and the Bengals are the bungling. 140 yards and 2 tds.
3. Joey Galloway - @ Detroit. It's hard to imagine anyone on the Lions defense being able to cover the self proclaimed "Fastest Man In The League". 135 yards 1 touchdown…on 4 catches.
4. Washington Redskins D/ST - vs. Arizona. I'm getting the feeling that Arizona doesn't like it when it gets physical…and the Redskin defense is very physical.

All but one of the must starts are "roadies" but it won't matter they'll come through. I would like to end this entry on a serious note: as a lifelong Dallas Cowboy fan, I'm sending my best wishes to the family of #20 Ron Springs.

It's the end of the 1st quarter of the season, and after a brief hiatus, here is the 2nd installment of the 'Fantasy Dreams Blog'.

Let me be the first to say that Norv Turner is the veteran fantasy football owner's best friend, because he has managed to keep Ladainian's stats at a level that can be countered by a crafty fantasy football owner. Four weeks into the season and I am ready to propose a theory:

Wide receivers have become very important to fantasy football teams.

Here's why, teams are beginning to take advantage of the pass friendly rules that the NFL has put into effect making it virtually impossible to cover a receiver. This makes me rethink the tried and true draft strategy of "when in doubt draft a running back"

The 1st quarter leaders are:
QB Tom Brady 1118 yards, 13 tds, 2 picks
QB Tony Romo 1199 yards, 11 tds, 2 rushing tds, and 3 picks
RB Joseph Addai 407 yards, 5 tds
WR Randy Moss 31 rec, 505 yds, 7 tds
WR Chad Johnson 28 rec, 495 yds, 3 tds
WR Plaxico Burress 19 rec, 286 yds, 6 tds
WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh 39 rec, 360 yds, 5 tds
TE Antonio Gates 33 rec, 376 yds, 2 tds
TE Jason Witten 20 rec, 304 yds, 3 tds
TE Dallas Clark 19 rec, 251 yds, 4 tds
K Adam Vinatieri 41 pts
K Jeff Reed 39 pts
K Nick Folk 37 pts
K Matt Stover 37 pts
D/ST Ravens
D/ST Steelers
D/ST Bears

Week 5 fantasy studs:
Matt Leinart - I know he is splitting time with Kurt Warner, but the hurry up won't be necessary as the Cardinals face a hapless Ram team that may have thrown the towel in last week.

Tom Brady and Randy Moss - do you remember what Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson did to the Cleveland secondary?

Raven Defense - a big bounce back game for Ray-Ray and 'em, as they face ex-teammate Trent Dilfer and the struggling 49er offense.

Week 5 use with caution:
St. Louis Rams offensive players - injuries are quickly killing the fantasy output of this once proud offense taking along with it some high profile fantasy stars (T. Holt, M. Bulger, and S. Jackson)

Cedric Benson - will this be another case of Lovie's loyalty to a player hurting the team? Benson has been a HUGE disappointment this season.

Steve Smith - I bet he is flying in the world's top elbow specialists, because he knows that David Carr can't get him the ball like Jake does.
