Kenny Phillips S Miami FL #1

Ht: 6'2
Wt: 212

Strengths:
Ideal size. A hard hitting safety. A playmaker in coverage. The leader of Miami's defensive unit the past two years. Adequate speed. Shows good agility. Has some experience and success in man coverage. Great ball skills. Tremendous leaping ability. A reliable tackler.
Weaknesses:
Overaggressive. Fell off a little his senior year as the team struggled as a whole. Somewhat reckless on the field; doesn't take good angles in pursuit and technique in man coverage is suspect. Relies too much on pure athleticism.
Comments:
Phillips is clearly the cream of the crop in this year's draft class at safety. However, he is not quite on the same level of other Miami safeties such as Sean Taylor, who went in the top ten. Phillips has the ability to be an instant starter at the next level and should be a mid to late first round selection.
