Rashard Mendenhall RB Illinois #5

Ht: 5'10
Wt: 225

Strengths:
Tremendous size. A powerful downhill runner. Elusive enough to break off the big run. Adequate speed. Keeps his legs churning and can move the pile for extra yards. Rarely goes down on first contact.
Weaknesses:
Was a mediocre backup running back until his breakout 2007 campaign. Looks slower on film that his timed speed indicates. Struggles against most top opponents; held to under 100 yards against Missouri, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State.
Comments:
Mendenhall was one of the top running backs in the college game in 2007, elevating his draft stock from completely off the radar screen to first round status. He's a powerful running back with a enough speed and elusiveness. The only downside is the question, is he a one year wonder? His pedestrian performances against the elite of the Big Ten raises some concern, although he ran all over USC in the Rose Bowl. He is a boom or bust prospect if there ever was one.
