Alphonso Smith CB Wake Forest #2

Senior
Ht: 5'9
Wt: 190

Strengths:
An elite playmaker with excellent ball skills. Elite speed, agility and quickness. Very fluid in coverage. Can turn and run with any receiver. Surprisingly sure tackler for a guy his size; has good technique and hits hard. Well built for his size. Excellent leaping ability. Shows the confidence and the skills necessary to excel in man coverage. Reads the quarterback very well. Does a nice job of locating the ball, even in man coverage. Has some experience as a receiver and a return specialist.
Weaknesses:
Vastly undersized. Despite showing good tackling technique, his size makes it impossible to avoid some costly missed tackles here and there. Can be overagressive at times.
Comments:
Smith ended his collegiate career with 21 interceptions, breaking Dre Bly's ACC record. Despite his obvious lack of size, Smith is one of the nation's most reliable cover-corners. He is as technically sound it gets for a college cornerback. His lack of size will cause teams to have reservations about spending a high pick on Smith, but he should be a solid option in the late first or early second round.
