Overall,
I think the Cardinals had a solid draft. They definitely reached for Levi Brown,
but he does have the potential to develop into a franchise left tackle, so it
could work out in the end. I think Alan Branch is a steal in with the 33rd pick.
There simply aren't many players with his combination of size and athletic ability.
It looks like Arizona is going to switch to the 3-4 defense and while Branch has
the size to be nose tackle, he may actually be best suited as a defensive end.
I also like the Buster Davis pick. He's the classic example of a hard worker that
get more out of his ability that you would expect by looking at his measurables.
He could be a starter at inside linebacker and bring a much needed attitude change
to their defense which has looked lazy over the past few years despite having
some talent. Breaston will likely be given the chance to be a punt/kick returner
and not much else. I think this was a reach because there were better return specialists
on the board. I love the Ben Patrick pick in the 7th round. They haven't give
up on Leonard Pope, but Patrick had too much value there to pass up. Overall,
their reach for Brown and their lack of draft picks holds them back from getting
an elite grade, but it was still a solid draft. Grade: B |

I
love what the Cardinals did in this draft. Obviously Matt Leinart is a great pick.
You simply can't pass on a quarterback like that if he falls to you at the 10th
overall pick, even if you had expected to bring in a defensive player. Lutui is
a massive lineman that will compete for a starting job as a rookie. Leonard Pope
could be the biggest steal of the draft. I think he has 1st round talent and easily
could have been selected in the late 1st round by someone like Jacksonville or
Cincinnati. Gabe Watson slid further than anyone though, and Denny Green hopes
to turn him around just like he did with DT Darnell Dockett, another guy that
slid due to character issues in 2004. Brandon Johnson is undersized for a linebacker,
but is a tremendous athlete and will help on special teams right away. Jonathan
Lewis will provide them some depth, and is another guy that slid down further
than expected. Todd Watkins doesn't figure to compete for playing time, but should
be given a shot as a return man. Grade: A |
