2007 NFL Draft:
23. Dwayne Bowe WR LSU
54. Turk McBride DT Tennnessee
82. Tank Tyler DT N.C. State
148. Kolby Smith RB Louisville
160. Justin Medlock PK UCLA
196. Herbert Taylor OT TCU
231. Michael Allan TE Whitworth

2007 Analysis:
I like the Chiefs first round pick of Bowe, but I think the first round receiver selection was a year or two too late. Why did they never give Trent Green a serious offensive weapon, but now that he's seemingly out the door they're willing to give Damon Huard or Brodie Croyle a legitimate number one receiver. I liked the pick of McBride until the rumors starter popping up that he's being moved to defensive end. He won't see any playing time there once Jared Allen returns from his suspension and he isn't the elite pass rusher that they needed anyway. Tank Tyler is a perfect fit at defensive tackle. He is a big body that simply eats up space and takes on blockers. Kolby Smith had god value where he was selected. I expect him to be the Chief's backup running back by the time the season is over. I like the Medlock pick. Lawrence Tynes hasn't been bad, but he isn't the elite kicker that Medlock has the potential to become. I'm not a big fan of Herbert Taylor. He has very little upside, and it is certainly disappointing that this is the only pick they spent on their depleted offensive line. Michael Allan had great value in the 7th round. He won't see the field much right away because the Chiefs are deep at tight end, but down the road he just may be Tony Gonzalez's replacement. Overall, it was a decent draft, but the Chiefs are in somewhat of a rebuilding mode right now and they didn't address some key needs at cornerback and offensive line.

2006 NFL Draft:
20. Tamba Hali DE Penn State
54. Bernard Pollard S Purdue
85. Brodie Croyle QB Alabama
154. Marcus Maxey CB Miami FL
186. Tre' Stallings OG Mississippi
190. Jeff Webb WR San Diego State
228. Jarrad Page S UCLA
2006 Analysis:
The Chiefs have had some of the worst drafts over past few seasons. I have said all along that I feel Tamba Hali is one of the most overrated players in this draft. On top of that, the Chiefs defensive ends are one of the strongpoints of their weak defense. They reached a little for Pollard in the 2nd round, but he's a big safety and I like his future as a strong safety in Herm Edwards' secondary. The Croyle pick was probably their best, based on value. He has a bright future, but will need some time to develop. He will have at least 2 years behind Trent Green before there is any pressure on him to step into the starting lineup. I expected the Chiefs to go for at least one cornerback on the first day, so the fact that they didn't get one until Marcus Maxey is disappointing because you can't rely on him to step in and have an impact. Their last two picks were solid late round additions. I like Webb and Page's chances of making the team as special teams guys. Overall I don't think the Chiefs picked up any immediate help from this draft, which is a disappointment for a team that came so close to the playoffs and is on their last legs of being a contender.
