NFL Draft: 9. Ted Ginn Jr. WR Ohio State 40. John Beck QB BYU 60.
Samson Satele OC Hawaii 71. Lorenzo Booker RB Florida State 108. Paul Soliai
DT Utah 181. Reagan Mauia FB Hawaii 199. Drew Mormino OC Central Michigan 219.
Kelvin Smith ILB Syracuse 225. Brandon Fields P Michigan State 238. Abraham
Wright DE Colorado | | 2007
Analysis: | I don't believe that this draft was really as bad as most made it out to be. Imagine that Brady Quinn was already off the board when the Dolphins were on the clock; the pick of Ted Ginn would not have been nearly the disaster that many fans believed it to be. When criticizing Ginn, keep in mind that he wasn't even recruited to Ohio State as a receiver (he was the #1 rated defensive prospect, as a cornerback, after playing corner and quarterback for the majority of his high school career). I think they took Beck a little too early, but he certainly has the ability to develop into a quality starting quarterback. He remind me a little of Drew Brees, and with a receiver like Ginn to stretch the field, he might put up similar numbers a few years down the line. I love the pick of Samson Satele, he should be a starter at either center or guard right away. Lorenzo Booker is also a great third round pick. He should be an excellent third down back behind Ronnie Brown. Paul Soliai is another great pickup. He has the ability to play nose tackle in their 3-4 system and he should pick Keith Traylor for immediate playing time. Reagan Mauia is an interesting pick. He has very little experience as a true full back and he's the size of an offensive lineman. It will be interesting to see how he develops. Drew Mormino had great value in the later rounds. I don't think he's too far behind Satele and either one of them could play center or guard. Brandon Fields was a necessary pick. He isn't the most consistent punter, but he has a great leg. Kelvin Smith and Abraham Wright are the two picks I'm not real high on. I think both player will struggle to make the roster out of camp, although Wright may find success by switching to outside linebacker. Overall, they added a number of quality players. Even though fans preferred Quinn to Beck as their quarterback of the future, this wasn't the worst draft in the league as many analysts have claimed.

NFL Draft: | 16.
Jason Allen S Tennessee 82. Derek Hagan WR Arizona State 114. Joe Toledo
OT Washington 212. Frederick Evans DT Southwest Texas State 226. Rodrique
Wright DT Texas 233. Devin Aromashodu WR Auburn | 2006
Analysis: | An
interesting draft for the Dolphins. They certainly needed to get help at receiver
and for their secondary, which they addressed with their first two picks. I really
like Jason Allen, but I think the 16th pick was a reach. There is too much of
a downside to be taking a risk on a guy that high. Hagan was a guy that looked
like a potential 1st rounder after the season ended, but a series of poor workouts
dropped him. If he ever learns how to catch the ball he'll be a steal. That's
a big if, however, and he may be an underachiever his entire career. Joe Toledo
is one of my favorite players in the draft. The former tight end has amazing athletic
ability for a tackle. He won't make an instant impact, but I think he has 1st
round potential and was a steal in the 4th round. Frederick Evans and Rodrique
Wright add depth to their defensive line. I've liked Wright all along even though
his stock dropped considerably. I think he was a great late round pick up. Aromashodu
was one of the most underrated receivers in this draft. His speed and big play
ability will force the Dolphins to find a place for him on the field soon. Overall,
Dolphin fans have to be disappointed at the lack of immediate help. I've said
I like a number of their later round picks, but you can't draft purely based on
potential. Despite their athletic ability, inevitable, a few of these guys won't
pan out. Grade: B- |
