2007 NFL Draft:
2. Calvin Johnson WR Georgia Tech
43. Drew Stanton QB Michigan St.
58. Ikaika Alma-Francis DE Hawaii
61. Gerald Alexander S Boise State
105. AJ Davis CB N.C State
117. Manuel Ramirez OG Texas Tech
158. Johnny Baldwin ILB Alabama A&M
255. Ramzee Robinson CB Alabama

2007 Analysis:
While the selecting another wide receiver was certainly a bold move, I think it was the right one. Roy Williams and Calvin Johnson will give Mike Martz similar tools to what he had in St. Louis, and this team could put up some big numbers in 2007. I personally think that Drew Stanton was a slight reach. He doesn't look like a future starter to me, and I also don't think he's the best fit for Martz's system, but I can't argue with the fact that they needed a young quarterback. I love the pick of Ikaika Alama-Francis. He is very raw and won't make much of an immediate impact, but he could certainly develop into a guy that racks up 10+ sacks a year in the near future. Gerald Alexander may have been the biggest reach of the entire draft. I thought he was a boarderline 7th round prospect but his stock surprising rose close to draft day. Even so, the 2nd round was far too early for his name to be called. A.J Davis and Manuel Ramirez were both nice 4th round picks. They should provide quality depth right away and potentially develop into future starters. Johnny Baldwin was another serious reach. Had the Lions not reached for him I believe he would have gone undrafted. Ramzee Robinson is an athletic but unpolished cornerback. Unlike most Mr. Irrelevants, I do expect him to be able to make their roster. Overall, this was another fairly solid draft for Lions. They're a long ways off, but the Rod Marinelli era is moving in the right direction.

2006 NFL Draft:
9. Ernie Sims OLB Florida State
40. Daniel Bullocks S Nebraska
74. Brian Calhoun RB Wisconsin
141. Jonathan Scott OT Texas
179. Alton McCann CBWest Virginia
217. Fred Matua OG USC
247. Anthony Cannon OLB Tulane
2006 Analysis:
Finally a defensive selection in the first round! Sims and Bullocks should both make an impact as rookies, possible as starters from day one. Brian Calhoun could be a solid backup, but I don't think he's a future starter like some people feel he could be. Jonathan Scott is a steal at 141. I think he has 1st round talent, but has been an underachiever throughout college. I also like the pick of Fred Matua, he should provide solid depth on the line. McCann and Cannon are backups/special teams guys at best.
