2007 NFL Draft:
25. Jon Beason OLB Miami FL
45. Dwayne Jarrett WR USC
59. Ryan Kalil OC USC
83. Charles Johnson DE Georgia
118. Ryne Robinson WR Miami OH
155. Dante Rosario TE Oreogo
164. Tim Shaw OLB Penn State
226. C.J. Wilson CB Baylor

2007 Analysis:
This was a very deep draft class for the Panthers and I think they got a number of guys capable of playing right away as well. Beason should immediately take over the starting weak side linebacker spot and be an instant upgrade at that position. I loved their pick of Jarrett. He's a very similar player to Keyshawn Johnson. He'll never be a dominant receiver, but he's a big target and can be a nice compliment to Steve Smith. Ryan Kalil is a still in the late second round. Either he or current starting center Justin Hartiwig could move over to guard in order to get Kalil onto the field right away. He's a smart player and can handle making a smooth transition to the NFL. Charles Johnson saw his stock fall considerably in recent weeks, but I think he had good value in the third round. He's just a backup at this point, but veteran Mike Rucker is slowing down, so Johnson could see a decent amount of playing time. Robinson also had good value in the fourth round. He's most likely only going to see the field as a return specialist, but he could have an instant impact there. I'm not a big fan of Dante Rosario, he's more of an h-back than a true tight end and he doesn't seem to fit into their system very well. Shaw was a late round steal. He's a great athlete with excellent speed at the linebacker position. He'll be a quality backup. Wilson doesn't have much upside, but I expect him to make the team as a 4th or 5th cornerback. The only thing holding them back from a better grade in this draft if the lack of a safety. They could have used a backup and future replacement for Mike Minter.

2006 NFL Draft:
27. Deangelo Williams RB Memphis
58. Richard Marshall CB Fresno State
88. James Anderson OLB Virginia Tech
89. Rashad Butler OT Miami FL
121. Nate Salley S Ohio State
155. Jeff King TE Virginia Tech
234. William Montgomery OC Virginia Tech
237. Stanley McClover DE Auburn
2006 Analysis:
DeAngelo Williams is a great pick up to push DeShaun Foster for their starting job. Richard Marshall should step right in for the departed Ricky Manning Jr. Their next best pick didn't come until the 7th round when the picked up Stanley McClover. I feel like the Panthers reached on just about all their picks. Jeff King had some value with the 155th pick, but I'm surprised that they didn't jump at the chance to get one of the many talented tight ends available to them earlier in the first round. They also needed plenty of help on their offensive line, and I don't think Rashad Butler is a sure thing, he's a streaky player that may be best suited to shift inside to offensive guard. Anderson is a solid player, but I expected him to come of the board on the 2nd day and I don't think you can expect him to do much to replace Will Witherspoon.
