2007 NFL Draft:
27. Robert Meachem WR Tennessee
66. Usama Young CB Kent State
88. Andy Alleman OG Akron
107. Antonio Pittman RB Ohio State
125. Jermon Bushrod OT Towson
145. David Jones CB Wingate
220. Marvin Mitchell ILB Tennessee

2007 Analysis:
The Saints had a very solid draft this year, although their approach to taking the best available player may leave some holes unfilled. Meachem was a solid first round selection, although I was slightly surprised to see them not target a cornerback. If nothing else, it means Devery Henderson's time with the team is limited. They reached a little for Usama Young, but he is a very athletic cornerback with the speed to match up with any receiver. Alleman had great value in the late third round; he could push for playing time early. Even though the last thing the Saints needed was another running back, you have to love their selection of Antonio Pittman. He was a second round value and he could be a steal in the 4th round. He's got the potential to be a starting running back, and he could eventually make Deuce McAllister expendable. Bushrod is a small school prospect that rose up the boards late. He has great size, but he is very raw. He'll be a prospect that won't see the field much as a rookie. Jones is another small school guy with the great speed. He's similar to Usama Young and he could also see time as a kick/punt returner. The Saints needed a linebacker, but Marvin Mitchell wasn't the answer. He's a special teams guy at best. The one thing missing from this draft was a defensive tackle. They passed on a number of players that could have helped, but instead they stockpiled offensive linemen and cornerbacks. Overall, it was still a very solid draft and they got a good mix of guys ready to contribute and some prospects to develop over time.

2006 NFL Draft:
2. Reggie Bush RB USC
43. Roman Harper S Alabama
108. Jahri Evans OG Bloomsburg
135. Rob Ninkovich DE Purdue
171. Mike Hass WR Oregon State
174. Bernard Lay CB Pittsbugh
210. Zach Strief OT Northwestern
252. Marques Colston WR Hofstra
2006 Analysis:
Anytime you can add a player like Reggie Bush you've had a good draft. However, I don't think they got much else. Harper was a reach in the 2nd round. They passed on a number of safeties that I easier ranked higher, such as Ko Simpson and Darnell Bing. Evans was another reach, I didn't expect his name to be called until late on day two. Ninkovich was a solid selection, he should add some depth to their line. Haas was a tremendously productive college player, but I think he has already reached his peak. He just doesn't have the speed and athletic ability to translate to the next level. I actually think Colston has a brighter future at receiver. Strief had great value in the late rounds. He is a project, but has tremendous upside and should develop into a solid pro. The concerning thing about this draft is that one again they fail to add an impact cornerback. Lay will add to their depth, but he shouldn't see the field all that often. I would have liked to see them add a cornerback on the first day.
