2007 NFL Draft:
15. Lawrence Timmons OLB Florida State
46. LaMarr Woodley DE Michigan
77. Matt Spaeth TE Minnesota
112. Daniel Sepulveda PT Baylor
132. Ryan McBean DT Oklahoma State
156. Cameron Stephenson OG Rutgers
170. William Gay CB Louisville
227. Dallas Baker WR Florida

2007 Analysis:
This was somewhat of a strange draft for the Steelers. The Lawrence Timmons selection wasn't a difficult one to predict. Mike Tomlin wanted a versatile linebacker that could play the 3-4 or the 4-3, because down the road, Tomlin figures to make the switch to his preferred Tampa Two defense. The selection of Woodley was made for similar reasons. He can stand up and play outside linebacker in their current system, but has the ability to switch back to his more natural defensive end spot if needed. The pick of Matt Spaeth confused me. Tight end was one of the few positions that the Steelers really didn't need any help at whatsoever. They got the best punter in the draft in Sepulveda, but do they really think Chris Gardocki, one of the leagues all time greats, is done? Ryan McBean was a nice pickup in the 4th round. He has the athleticism to play end in the 3-4 system. Stephenson should provide some depth, but he won't fill the void if Alan Faneca moves on. William Gay is a backup at best, he just doesn't have the size or athleticism to be a major contributor. I like the pick of Dallas Baker. He doesn't have the measurables, but he is a consistent performer and could end up being a decent 3rd or 4th receiver. Overall, the Steelers got a few decent prospects, but no one stands out as a true future star.

2006 NFL Draft:
25. Santonio Holmes WR Ohio State
83. Anthony Smith S Syracuse
95. Willie Reid WR Floride State
131. Willie Colon OT Hofstra
133. Orien Harris DT Miami FL
164. Omar Jacobs QB Bowling Green
167. Charles Davis TE Purdue
201. Marvin Philip C California
240. Cedric Humes RB Virginia Tech
2006 Analysis:
The Steelers addressed their biggest need in the 1st round with Holmes. He should make an immediate impact playing opposite Hines Ward. Anthony Smith is a solid guy for their secondary. He may even compete for the free safety job, left vacant by Chris Hope. Replacing Randle El is a two man job, and Willie Reid is the 2nd half of the equation. While Holmes takes over his receiving duties, Reid will be their return man. I think Willie Colon will prove to be one of the best small school guys to come from this draft. He's got a ton of athletic ability for an offensive guard. Harris is a bit of an underachiever, like his older brother (49ers OT Kwame Harris) but he had some value in the late rounds. Omar Jacobs never should have left school early, but he is an unbelievable athlete and may end up switching to receiver. Davis and Phillip are just there to fill out the depth chart. The Steelers are hoping that Humes turns out to be a steal. He's a big back, much like Bettis, and could be used in similar situations as The Bus.
