2007 NFL Draft:
10. Amobi Okoye DT Louisville
73. Jacoby Jones WR Lane
123. Fred Bennett CB South Carolina
144. Brandon Harrison S Stanford
163. Brandon Frye OT Virginia Tech
183. Kasey Studdard OG Texas
218. Zach Diles ILB Kansas State

2007 Analysis:
This has to be considered a disappointing draft for the Texans at this point. Okoye received far too much hype, and I think he was a risky top ten pick. He didn't consistently produce until his senior year, and those are the types of players you have be careful around. I like Jacoby Jones, but he isn't the type of receiver that will step right into the Texans system and be a reliable second option behind Andre Johnson. Fred Bennett saw his stock fall in the weeks leading up to the draft, but in the 4th round he was a solid value pick. I think they reached a little on Brandon Harrison. They were desperate for some help at safety, but Harrison isn't much more than a backup and special teams guy. Brandon Frye could provide some decent depth, but he has limited upside. Based purely on value, Kasey Studdard may be their best selection. He isn't a dominant lineman but he simply gets the job done. The Texans need a reliable guy like that on their line and he could compete for playing time early on. Zach Diles has some upside, but he's more of a project and figures to only be a special teamer early on. Overall, this was one of the more disappointing drafts in their recent history. They just didn't land the immediate help that they needed to get out of the cellar of the NFL.

2006 NFL Draft:
1. Mario Williams DE North Carolina State
33. DeMeco Ryans OLB Alabama
65. Charles Spencer OG Pittsburgh
66. Eric Winston OT Miami FL
98. Owen Daniels TE Wisconsin
170. Wali Lundy RB Virginia
251. David Anderson WR Colorado State
2006 Analysis:
The selection of Mario Williams was either a great sign for the organization, or a terrible move. I'm not sold on Reggie Bush's ability to transfer his dominance of the college game to the NFL, but it still takes a lot of guts to pass on the #1 player on nearly every teams board. Ryans is a nice pick in the 2nd round, and should compete for a starting job as a rookie. I love their 3rd round picks Spencer and Winston. I had thought the Texans would target Winston in the 2nd round, so he is certainly a steal with the 66th pick. Owen Daniels has a chance to see the field some as a rookie. I like Wali Lundy and he will be a solid 3rd option at running back. David Anderson had a tremendous college career and was a nice sleeper pick with the 251st selection. Overall the Texans did a nice job of addressing their needs and getting as many as four guys that could compete for starting jobs as rookies.
