Analysis: |
This was definitely not one of the better drafts in recent history for the Titans. Michael Griffin is a nice player, but he isn't an elite safety and I certainly don't think is a first round prospect as a cornerback as it appears the Titans are considering moving him there. I like Chris Henry, but just not in a Titans uniform. There is no veteran leadership at the running back positions there and Henry and LenDale White are two underachieving backs that need some guidance. They reached for Paul Williams. He has good speed, but that's about it. Leroy Harris was a solid but unspectacular selection. He'll provide some decent depth, but I don't see him as much more than a career backup. Chris Davis was another reach. He's one of the more overrated players in this class as far as I'm concerned. Antonio Johnson will get lost in the the shuffle of their defensive line. They simply have too many mediocre defensive lineman and adding Johnson doesn't help the situation at all. Joel Filani has good size but lacks the speed to excel at the next level. He was a product of the system in college. I like Jacob Ford. Based purely on value he may have been their best pick. He's a project, but given some time he could develop into a decent player. I also like Ryan Smith. He isn't a starter quality, but I can see him becoming a solid backup. Same goes for Mike Otto, who lacks the natural ability but has the fundamentals to be a reliable backup. Overall, the Titans only landed one guy, Griffin, who is a sure starter, and they added very few guys that even have the potential to develop into stars when they reach their full potential.

Analysis: | The
Titans are taking a risk on Vince Young. I've said all year that Leinart is more
of a sure thing, but if Young reaches his full potential he will be a player that
the NFL has never seen before. That is a big if however, and he will either be
a huge success or complete bust. The same thing goes for LenDale White, he will
either be Jerome Bettis or Ron Dayne. Although, I like White's chances of succeeding
at the next level and I believe his conditioning issues have been blown out of
proportion. Lowry is another overrated guy from Penn State. I like Tulloch, and
he did not get the attention he deserved this year. The same goes for Nande. Mahelona
has a huge upside, but has some durability concerns. I think he fits well into
the Titans defensive scheme as an interior lineman despite his lack of size. Orr
has good size and decent speed and should compete for playing time, although there
will be plenty of competition for him in Tennessee. Finnegan is a potential starter
at punt returner. Toone and Ganther are interesting picks out of Utah. Neither
one stands out, and they'll likely end up on the practice quad. Overall, this
is a tough draft to grade. If Young and White both pan out it is an unbelievable
draft. If they don't, its a disaster. Grade: B |
